They also do not want to see Russians in fencing
318 athletes appealed to the IOC and FIE with a request to reconsider the decision on the admission of athletes from aggressor countries.
In yet another sport, athletes spoke out against the admission of representatives of aggressor countries to international competitions.
318 fencers from all over the world appealed to the IOC and FIE with a request to reconsider the decision to admit Russians to tournaments.
Among the signatories of the open letter, in addition to Europeans, there are also representatives of Chile, the USA, Japan, Canada, Mexico and Brazil.
“With complete disregard for the votes of athletes, you allowed Russia and Belarus to return to FIE competitions. This is an obvious violation of the position of the IOC. And this once again shows that Russia’s interests are more important than the votes and rights of athletes, especially from Ukraine,” Reuters quotes the text of the letter.
Recall that earlier at an extraordinary meeting of the committee, the International Fencing Federation decided to allow athletes from terrorist countries to participate in tournaments.
Earlier, a number of federations opposed the admission of Russians and Belarusians to the World Boxing Championship. Athletes boycotted the competition in protest.
