The share of renewable energy in total electricity generation increased to 21% from 19% in 2021, the share of coal generation decreased to 20% from 23%,
Electricity production from renewable energy sources (RES) in the United States in 2022 for the first time exceeded that of coal-fired power plants. This was reported by the Energy Information Administration of the Ministry of Energy of the country (EIA).
The share of renewables in total electricity generation is reported to have risen to 21%, including 14% from wind and solar power plants, from 19% in 2021, the share of coal generation has decreased to 20% from 23%, nuclear from 20% to 19% .
Natural gas remains the main source of energy for electricity generation, and its share has increased from 37% to 39%.
President and CEO of the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE) Gregory Whetstone believes that the development of renewable energy is largely due to the reduction in the cost of wind and solar generation.
Earlier it was reported that by 2027 the capacity of world wind generation will increase by 680 GW.
