Governor Elmano de Freitas (PT) visited Senador Pompeu, a municipality about 270 kilometers from Fortaleza, visiting the areas flooded by the torrential rain that fell in the region during the early hours of the morning. The municipality declared a state of public calamity. According to Funceme, there were 105 millimeters of rain between 7am on Sunday and 7am on Monday.
Elmano also visited the municipality of Milhã, which is in a state of emergency. There, the 130 millimeters of rain bled the Jatobá dam, which before Sunday had less than half of its water capacity.
“There are many tasks, but now it’s time for a lot of work and that’s why we are in the positions we are. For when the people need us to be together”, pointed out the governor.
Due to the flooding, the Public Works Superintendence (SOP) blocked a stretch of the CE-166, which connects Senador Pompeu to Piquet Carneiro. A servant of the Piquet Carneiro city hall is missing after jumping out of the car to escape the flood that invaded the track. The woman who was with him also jumped out of the vehicle and was rescued by boat, clinging to trees. She was taken to the hospital and is doing well.

The rain also left Codiá without light all morning. Power was only restored around 2pm. Civil Defense and Fire Department teams are working on rescues. The mayor of Senador Pompeu, Maurício Pinheiro (PDT) asked rural families to leave their homes. “Those who live in risk areas, I ask you to leave your house. We are in a state of calamity, we have nothing to celebrate today. The tapping of the Patu River was a 12-year dream, but due to the circumstances, it only causes us concern”, lamented.
