The Ninth Cassation Court of General Jurisdiction in Vladivostok overturned the acquittal of the artist Yulia Tsvetkova. This was reported by the telegram channel “Laws of the city of Kitezh”.
The case was sent for a new trial to the court in Komsomolsk-on-Amur. Tsvetkova is accused of distributing pornography (point “b” of part 3 of article 242 of the Criminal Code) because of publications in the public “Vagina Monologues”.
At the end of November 2022, Tsvetkova left Russia with her mother.
The Russian authorities have been pursuing Tsvetkova for three years now: a case of “distributing pornography” (point “b” of part 3 of Article 242 of the Criminal Code) was brought against her in the fall of 2019. The reason was pictures with stylized images of female genital organs in the Vagina Monologues group on VKontakte, which she administered.
In March 2021, the court began considering the case on the merits. In May, Yulia Tsvetkova went on a hunger strike, demanding that her trial be held in public. On June 14, the prosecution requested three years and two months in a penal colony for the artist. A month later, the court acquitted the artist. The prosecutor’s office filed a complaint with the Khabarovsk regional court, but it was rejected – Tsvetkova was acquitted.
In addition to the criminal case, four administrative cases were brought against Tsvetkova (of which three were under the article on “propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations” among minors). However, only two reached the court – and Yulia was fined 50 thousand rubles twice. The reason for one of the cases was a drawing by an activist depicting same-sex families and captioned “Family is where love is.”
On June 3, 2022, the Ministry of Justice included her in the register of “foreign agents” media.
