Created from co-direction exercises, the Grupo de Teatro Especionário, the play ‘Mestiço – Traços da Resistência’ seeks to reflect and move the audience during the Festival de Teatro de Curitiba. The show stars actor and director Elisan Correia and tells the look of the black man on structural racism and also how it affects his life today.
The play is part of the Caixa Preta Exhibition and will have three sessions at the Espaço Cultural Especionário. With that, Mestizo – Traços da Resistência will be on display on April 7, 8 and 9, at 8 pm.

A piece that talks about identification
According to Elisan, the play Mestizo – Traços da Resistência was born during the 1st Festival of Theater Spectacle, in connection with Coletivo Átila, during an exercise in which each member directed the other.
“The play started with the intention of showing a little of my experience. It has a lot of my traits, from my childhood, from my adolescence”, he highlights.
According to the actor and director, the idea to develop the play required extensive research on structural racism in the country. The objective was to try to understand how black people were criminalized. As a result, several people identified themselves during the premiere in 2022.

A success with the public, with all performances sold out, the show gained new horizons, reaching the stages of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro at the end of last year.
“When I put the play on the agenda and presented it the first time, many people identified with it. Many of them looked and said, ‘I didn’t think that way!’ ‘I didn’t see it that way,’” recalls the director.
With that in mind, Elisan decided to bring Mestiço – Traços da Resistência back to the stage to continue promoting reflection on racism and its consequences.

“Each location had a different reception and I’m returning with the show here in Curitiba. Here was the only place where the majority of my audience was white and I want to reach the black audience too. There’s not a moment of relief, it’s a ‘beat’ after another. The person has to be prepared to watch a drama show”, concludes Elisan Correia.
It is worth mentioning that the Mostra Caixa Preta is part of the FRINGE! program, at the 31st Curitiba Festival. Tickets for the play Mestizo – Traços da Resistência can be purchased at the official box office, at Shopping Mueller (Av.
