In Poland, three more foreign citizens were detained on suspicion of espionage. PAP writes about this with reference to the Deputy Minister-Coordinator of the Polish special services Stanislav Zharin.
According to the Polish authorities, the detainees were members of a spy network working in the interests of Russia. On March 16, nine foreigners were detained who were conducting intelligence activities against Poland, preparing sabotage commissioned by Russian intelligence and engaged in propaganda activities.
The secret services believe that they installed hidden video cameras on the railway that connected the Rzeszow airport and the station on the border with Ukraine: this route brings military equipment from the Western allies to Ukraine. US President Joe Biden and other Western politicians traveled to Kyiv on the same route.
“This is a whole network of people who were tasked with collecting information about routes and transportations related to Ukraine, but these people also distributed specific content that was ordered by the Russian side and can be considered part of the current agenda of active propaganda activities against Poland,” Zharin said.
According to him, a total of 12 people were detained during the investigation of this case.
Several foreigners were detained in Poland: they are accused of working for the Russian special services:
A day earlier, a court in Poland had arrested another foreigner for three months on suspicion of spying for Russia. According to counterintelligence, he collected information about the critical infrastructure of the Pomeranian and Kuyavian-Pomeranian voivodeships, as well as the activities of departments responsible for security. He handed over the information he received to the Russian special services.
The detainee pleaded guilty and spoke about the details and circumstances of his actions and his recruitment by Russian intelligence. He has been fulfilling the tasks of the Russian special service since at least January 2023, the Polish authorities said.
