Evgeny Prigozhin
A parody of the cinematic style of Putin’s interview could be used as part of a larger trolling campaign to attack the Kremlin.
Wagner PMC leader Yevgeny Prigozhin is using his media influence in Russia to present himself as a contender in the 2024 presidential election. This is stated in the analytics of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) for Tuesday, March 28.
For example, Prigozhin’s own news agency recently published an interview with him that visually replicates various interviews with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Prior to this, videos with Prigogine looked different – he chose frames in dynamics or reminiscent of a battlefield.
Prigozhin also used the interview to reiterate his previous arguments about the need to instill a hardline ideology in Russian fighters and imply that the Russian Defense Ministry is deliberately depriving the Wagner group of artillery ammunition.
Analysts believe that parodying the cinematic style of Putin’s interview could be used as part of a larger trolling campaign to attack the Kremlin, or draw tacit parallels between Prigozhin and Putin.
In addition, on March 11, Prigozhin made a sarcastic statement that he would run for president in 2024. At the same time, Prigozhin has repeatedly attacked Putin’s presidential administration, for example, stating that some officials are traitors. He also questioned the Kremlin’s narratives that the Russian Federation is at war with NATO, and there are Nazis in Ukraine.
Analysts believe that Prigozhin’s recent behavior – regardless of his intent – is spreading the narrative in Russian society that he has big political aspirations in Russia.
Earlier it was reported that PMC Wagner wants to recruit 30,000 militants by May.
