Due to the arrest of a WSJ journalist, the United States urged its citizens to leave the Russian Federation
The United States of America condemned the detention of the American journalist in Russia.
United States Secretary of State Anthony Blinken called on the citizens of the country to leave the territory of the Russian Federation. This was announced on Thursday, March 30, in a statement by the press service of the US State Department.
He stressed that it is not safe for Americans to be in Russia and it is necessary to leave it as soon as possible.
“We reiterate our strong warnings about the danger to US citizens in Russia. US citizens living or traveling in Russia should leave the country immediately, as outlined in our travel advisory for Russia,” Blinken said.
He also stressed that the top priority of the State Department is the safety of US citizens abroad.
This reaction of the United States followed the detention of an American journalist in Russian Yekaterinburg, whom the FSB accused of espionage.
Earlier on Thursday, it became known about the detention of Evan Gershkovich in Russian Yekaterinburg. The FSB of the Russian Federation accuses him of “espionage”. Charges were filed under the relevant article of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The journalist faces up to 20 years in prison.
In turn, The Wall Street Journal denies the allegations against Evan Gershkovich and demands to release him immediately.
