Parliamentarians from the left field reacted with criticism to the arrival of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) to Brazil this Thursday (30). Members of the PT and PSOL protested in the Chamber of Deputies to remember the footprint left by the management of the former captain, who governed the country for the last four years. Wielding protest signs, the parliamentarians also demanded answers from the former president related to cases such as the Saudi jewelry brought to Brazil after an official trip abroad.
“They were treating Bolsonaro’s return as a triumphal arrival, and there was a resounding failure, cats dripping. That’s what we had today. It was a failure. Because, in fact, he only came back because he was summoned by the Federal Police to testify next Wednesday, the 5th. Bolsonaro did not return because he wanted to return. He ran away afraid of being arrested even when he was president of the Republic”, rescued Lindberg Farias (PT-RJ).
The parliamentarian also commented on his perception of the situation of the extreme right in the current context. “Honestly, I feel an atmosphere of discouragement in the Bolsonarist base because, for me, Bolsonaro’s destiny is prison. Every week a new fact emerges”, he continued, when evoking the sequence of facts that have been revealed in the case of jewelry.
Chico Alencar (PSOL-RJ) also protested at Salão Verde, a space where parliamentarians gather in the Chamber to hold press conferences and hold demonstrations. “His Lordship is already demanding from the government something that the presidential decree does not guarantee him, which is an armored car. He is entitled, as a former president, to two cars, and he has them. There is armor that we will not accept. Your Lordship you’ll have to answer to the police, justice and society”, shouted the psolista, while holding a poster with a cartoon that illustrated the case of the jewels.
“What are the reasons for a self-proclaimed patriot to leave the country in the honorable position of President of the Republic before ending his term and staying 90 days away, and in a single place, there in Florida, which some of us here know more as the land of Goofy and Mickey? The taste is not disputed, but this long-term abandonment of Brazil is very strange.
Deputy Célia Xakriabá (PSOL-MG) demanded that Bolsonaro be held accountable for the humanitarian crisis that the Yanomami indigenous community in Roraima is experiencing today. She stated that the former president owes explanations for the consequences of the anti-environmental measures he took during his administration.
“If people really think about it, who was the first person that Bolsonaro attacked? I’ve been saying it was a woman. Who was that woman? It was the land, because when he attacked the land, he attacked all indigenous peoples. On his first day mandate, he said he wasn’t going to demarcate a centimeter of indigenous land”.
The parliamentarian also pointed out that the former government’s measures encouraged socio-territorial conflicts responsible for 135 murders of indigenous leaders in 2019 and 185 deaths in 2021. patriotic, but does not comply (that) to honor the flag of his country. The green and yellow is ours, it belongs to the original peoples, where Brazil begins”, he added.
