The Migration Service of Argentina began to massively refuse Russians in extending tourist stays, as well as in issuing and renewing residence permits. This was announced on Thursday by the head of the consular department of the Russian embassy Georgy Polin, his words are quoted by TASS.
According to the Russian diplomat, the Argentine authorities issue orders to the Russians to leave the country as soon as possible under the threat of deportation. He noted that the embassy is aware of dozens of such cases.
Russian citizens have the right to stay in Argentina without a visa for a period not exceeding 90 days within a period of 180 days. The Argentine authorities, refusing to extend the stay of the Russians, refer to the fact that they exceed this period. At the same time, the consul notes that earlier the authorities satisfied most of the requests of Russians to extend the tourist stay in the country.
“We would proceed from the fact that the non-discriminatory implementation of such provisions of Argentine law implies that citizens of other countries that have a visa-free regime with Argentina would be denied a residence permit if the relevant bilateral or multilateral agreements contain similar provisions. In recent months, it has been heard almost exclusively Russian citizens,” Polin said. He recommended that Russians who have received refusals file an appeal, which can take a long time, during which you can stay in the country.
Earlier it was reported that the Argentine authorities, after a large-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, recorded a sharp increase in the number of Russians staying in the country. Among other things, over the past year, about 10 thousand pregnant Russian women came to Argentina, many of whom gave birth in the country. Argentina grants its citizenship to all those born in its territory. In February, it was reported that several pregnant Russian women were denied entry into the country – subsequently, the authorities still allowed them to enter. At the same time, the Argentine authorities announced that they would deprive the residence permit of Russian parents of children born in Argentina if they did not live in the country.
