Lockheed Martin intends to ramp up production to 14,000 rounds a year by 2024, but it will take at least two years to double production capacity.
The American company Lockheed Martin cannot increase the production of GMLRS projectiles for HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) for Ukraine, due to a lack of equipment and labor. About it writes the publication Defense One.
It is reported that the company is now operating at full capacity and producing 10,000 GMLRS rounds per year, but this is not enough to meet the needs of customers.
According to the publication, Lockheed Martin intends to increase production to 14 thousand shells per year by 2024, but it will take at least two years to double production capacity.
Lockheed Martin is also facing supply chain issues. Some of the components used in the GMLRS are required for the production of other types of weapons in demand.
At the end of February, it was reported that the US plant would double the production of HIMARS units.
Recall that in February, the US State Department approved the supply of HIMARS to Poland and the Netherlands. We are talking about transactions worth billions of dollars.
It also became known that Germany plans to produce HIMARS. Rheinmetall is already in talks with Lockheed Martin for this.
