Two people died in Duque de Caxias, in Baixada Fluminense, after the rains that hit part of the state of Rio last Thursday night (30). According to the municipal government, a man identified as Françoise Edgar Felipe Carvalho, 21, was struck by lightning in the Vila Ideal neighborhood. Alexsandro Paula, 43, died after being swept away by the floodwaters. One more person, who was dragged by the waters during the rain, is missing.
The Prefecture of Caxias reported that during the night 18 warning sirens were triggered in the municipality. The biggest flooding points occurred in the Center, Vila São Luiz, Jardim Primavera and on Rodovia Washington Luiz.

The municipality of Rio recorded the highest volume of rain in just one hour since the beginning of the rainy season. The Tijuca/Muda rainfall station reached 79.2 mm/h at 8:30 pm. Until then, the highest reading (in 1 hour) had been recorded at the Bangu rainfall station (70mm), on March 11. At 10:30 pm, the city was still in Attention Stage and had 81 sirens activated in 50 communities.
Throughout the day, the Rio Operations Center warned of the risk of moderate to heavy rain in the afternoon and evening. The municipality entered the Mobilization Stage at 6:45 pm and went up to the Attention Stage at 7:30 pm. Several pockets of water were registered in the city and some of them were still being undone by the City Hall teams, around 9:30 pm.

In all, more than 350 professionals worked on the streets of Rio and at the Operations Center with the aim of minimizing impacts. Comlurb even operated with 150 garbage collectors, who concentrated their efforts on removing accumulations of garbage on the grids of the drains.
The Civil Defense mobilized 45 agents to activate the sirens and check the operation of the equipment. The agency was not summoned to carry out inspections and there was also no interdiction of properties. The sirens were demobilized around 10 pm.
