Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian refugees are now in Germany
The police did not provide information on whether these attacks are politically motivated, although they may have this information.
Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, 3,250 crimes against Ukrainians have been registered in Berlin. Such data was published the day before by the Alliance of Ukrainian Organizations.
At the request of the organization, the member of the Chamber of Berlin Catherine Walen from the Green Party made an inquiry regarding the attacks on Ukrainians that have been committed since February 24, 2022 in the German capital.
Police statistics show that there are two and a half times more attacks with bodily injuries against Ukrainians than against other groups.
The high number of crimes is especially in the districts of Mitte (640) and Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf (484). In other areas, they were much less. Thefts (1294), bodily harm (704), fraud (301), threats (234) and insults (117) were especially frequent. Only 23 investigations ended with charges in court.
At the same time, the police did not provide information on whether these attacks are politically motivated, although they may have this data.
“We do not know this, but there is reason to believe that we are talking about hate crimes,” the alliance said.
Earlier, a hostel for refugees from Ukraine burned down in Germany. All 14 people accommodated in the dormitory managed to leave the premises in time and were not injured. The authorities and the police believe that the fire was deliberately set.
