The speaker of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stressed that the amount of transferred equipment “will not be widely publicized now.”
At the initial stage, several dozen Western F-16 fighters may be transferred to Ukraine, Air Force speaker Yuri Ignat said on the air of the telethon.
The historic decision to transfer the F-16 will be the impetus for our victory. I hope this happens as soon as possible. In terms of quantity, of course, no one will hand over these aircraft individually. These aircraft will be transferred by units. Aviation units are no less than a squadron. In our version, this is 12 plus aircraft. Western partners have more squadrons – up to 18 aircraft. Thus, several dozen aircraft can be transferred to Ukraine first to solve current problems,” Ignat said.
At the same time, he stressed that the exact amount of transferred equipment “will not be widely publicized now.”
Recall that US President Joe Biden confirmed his agreement to train Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighters during negotiations with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky in Japan. Biden said he received a “firm assurance” from the Ukrainian president that the F-16s would not be used for attacks on Russian soil.
