Zelensky arrived in Japan for the G7 summit

Critical situation in Bakhmut – Ministry of Defense
A critical situation has developed in the city of Bakhmut, heavy fighting is underway. Nevertheless, the Ukrainian army continues to hold the line. This was announced by Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malyar. According to her, our troops are holding the line in the Samolet area. Also, the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that Bakhmut remains the main priority target for the Russians. In addition to the Wagner grouping, the Russian Federation is pulling up airborne and motorized rifle units there. In just one day, the Russian invaders covered the positions of the Ukrainian Defense Forces with cannon and rocket artillery 414 times.
G7 leaders urge China to put pressure on Russia
The leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) countries called on China to put pressure on Russia to stop its military aggression and withdraw its troops from Ukraine. This is stated in a communiqué issued on May 20 following the leaders’ talks at a meeting in Hiroshima. The G7 leaders noted that they are “ready to build constructive and stable relations with China, recognizing the importance of frank interaction.” The G7 leaders also said that they are taking concrete steps to support Ukraine for as long as it takes.
Reznikov announced a new meeting in the Ramstein format
The meeting of the international contact group on military assistance to Ukraine in the Ramstein format will be held next week. This was announced by Defense Minister Alexei Reznikov. “Strengthening air defense / missile defense remains our number 1 priority. Ground systems – from MANPADS to powerful batteries and missiles for them are invariably in focus. In particular, we will talk about this with colleagues at the next meeting in the Ramstein format next week,” – he said.
The EU told the details of the 11 package of sanctions against the Russian Federation
The new package of EU sanctions will affect 90 companies that helped Russia circumvent economic restrictions previously imposed on it. This was stated by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen. According to her, some of these banned companies are registered in China.
