NABU and SAP seized a large amount of cash
The search was conducted on May 22 as part of a pre-trial investigation into the $2.7 million in undue gains by the former chief of the Supreme Court and a lawyer.
Almost $500,000 was additionally confiscated in a case on suspicion of the former chairman of the Supreme Court, Vsevolod Knyazev, exposed for bribery. This was reported by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) on Tuesday, May 23.
“During the search, NABU and SAPO seized a large amount of cash worth almost half a million US dollars, hidden by the participants in the crime in the case on suspicion of the chairman of the Supreme Court. Currently, NABU and SAPO are investigating the source and ownership of these funds,” the report says.
It is indicated that the search was carried out on May 22 as part of a pre-trial investigation into the receipt of $ 2.7 million in improper benefits by the head of the Supreme Court and a lawyer. The money was transferred in exchange for decisions in favor of one of the Ukrainian businessmen.
Earlier it became known that it was not possible to find about a million dollars from the bribe to Knyazev.
Recall that on May 15, a corruption scheme was exposed, in which the leadership of the Supreme Court participated. In particular, the head of the court, Vsevolod Knyazev, was caught on a $2.7 million bribe. It was about money transferred from persons speaking on the part of businessman Konstantin Zhevago.
The next day, the Supreme Court dismissed Knyazev from his post. NABU declared suspicion to him. And already on May 18, the court took into custody the ex-chairman of the Supreme Court.
