In Mexico, the most dangerous volcano Popocatepetl became more active, and millions of people received a warning about the need to prepare for a possible evacuation. It is reported by CNN.
The volcano is located between the states of Morelos, Puebla and Mexico City. Ash from a volcano in the central part of the country caused flight delays in the state of Mexico. The state also suspended classes in 40 municipalities in the state of Puebla, five municipalities in the state of Mexico and seven in the state of Tlaxcala.
It is reported that about 25 million people live within the radius of destruction of the volcano.
On Sunday, Mexico’s National Organization for Civil Protection (CNPC) raised its volcanic alert level to phase 3 yellow and warned of increased volcanic activity and high-speed ash dispersal in a number of nearby cities.
“In the case of Mexico City, there is a risk of ash fall. We are ready for such a scenario and we know what to do. Let’s stay ready,” Mexico City Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum wrote.
