Commissioner for Missing Persons under Special Circumstances, Oleg Kotenko
The Ministry of Internal Affairs has already issued about 500 extracts. When they are formed, they check whether the person really disappeared under special circumstances.
Information about 23,700 people has been entered into the Unified Register of Missing Persons. This was announced at a briefing on May 26 by Oleg Kotenko, Commissioner for Missing Persons under Special Circumstances.
“Since the beginning of May, the Unified Register of Missing Persons under Special Circumstances has been launched … All relatives who are looking for missing persons who have applied to the National Police with a statement about the disappearance of a person, and those who have applied to the Office of the Commissioner for Missing Persons, in This register has been entered. This is more than 23 thousand people,” he said.
The Ombudsman emphasized that not all persons from the register disappeared under special circumstances. It automatically contains data on the preliminary statements of relatives.
When issuing an extract from the registry, experts check whether the person really disappeared under special circumstances.
Kotenko added that during the year of his Office’s activity, the whereabouts of about eight thousand missing persons were established.
