“Thanks to the timely actions of detectives and prosecutors, the corruption scheme was exposed and stopped: in 2019, the court satisfied the claim to invalidate the contract between the State Enterprise and the intermediary company. Thus, it was possible to prevent even more damage to the state,” the report says.
The investigation found that from November 2015 to January 2017, the enterprise sold 756 thousand tons of coal to a private intermediary company at a price three times lower than the market price. Then the intermediary company sold the same coal, but at the market price, to PJSC Centrenergo (78.289% of the company’s shares belong to the state).
“Because of this scheme, the SOE lost potential profit in the amount of more than UAH 336 million,” the NABU reported.
It is also reported that in November 2015, the SOE mined more than 112.5 thousand tons of coal without an appropriate permit, which caused damage to the environment in the amount of more than UAH 210 million.
