Last Monday (7), former Rio de Janeiro councilor Zico Bacana and his brother were killed in a shooting attack in Guadalupe, in the northern part of the municipality of Rio. According to witnesses, armed men drove by shooting from inside a car in the direction of the bakery where they were.

The politician was shot in the head, he was taken to the Albert Schweitzer Municipal Hospital, but he did not resist. Brother Jorge Tavares, on the other hand, was rescued at Carlos Chagas Hospital, but also died. A security guard was injured and a third person passing by was also killed. The Capital Homicide Police Station (DHC) is investigating the case.
Jair Barbosa Tavares was 53 years old and was councilor between 2017 and 2020. In the last election, he was an alternate for Podemos. On social media, he presented himself as a paratrooper and military policeman.

Zico was investigated by the Militia CPI of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Alerj) and heard in 2018 as a witness in the investigation into the murders of Marielle Franco and Anderson Gomes. However, there is no evidence of his involvement in the crime.
The former councilor was cited in complaints as the head of a militia that operated in the neighborhoods of Guadalupe, where the shooting took place, and Ricardo de Albuquerque, a neighboring neighborhood in the North zone. He was never convicted of the crime and denied being a militia member.
