Last Wednesday (9), the deputies of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Alerj) approved Draft Resolution 28/23, by deputy Dani Balbi (PCdoB), which awards the Dandara Prize to singer Preta Gil . The text will be promulgated by the presidency of Alerj, deputy Rodrigo Bacellar (PL), and published in the Official Gazette of the Legislative in the coming days, according to information on the house’s website.

“A black woman, who was a victim of racism and all forms of oppression. And in the public debate she has haughtily faced all forms of misogyny, sexism and attempts at silencing that women suffer. In the field of culture, she has stood out for being one of the strongest voices in defense of the popularization and blackening of culture”, commented Balbi in plenary.
Created by Resolution 137/15, the Dandara Award is aimed at personalities who contribute to the appreciation of Afro-descendant, Latin American and Caribbean black women in the state.
