The elimination of education in Russian in Estonia is contrary to international law, the UN said. As noted in the world organization, the transition to an exclusively Estonian language “extremely limits” education in minority languages. Earlier, the law on the transition to the Estonian-language education system was adopted by the country’s parliament: its actual implementation will begin in the 2024-2025 academic year from kindergartens, as well as in the first and fourth school grades. According to experts, by pursuing a policy of banning the Russian language in the education system, as well as in other areas, the Estonian authorities “show themselves as a fascist regime.” At the same time, analysts consider the reaction of the UN to such discriminatory measures, which have been prepared for quite a long time, “belated”.
