A bus carrying Corinthians fans was involved in an accident that killed seven people early this Sunday (20), on the Fernão Dias highway, in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte (MG). According to reports from survivors, the driver shouted that the vehicle had no brakes.
In a note, the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT) reported that the vehicle was neither registered nor authorized to carry out interstate passenger transport.
In all, according to the Civil Police, 36 people were injured in the accident, 27 of which needed medical attention and were sent to hospitals in the region. According to the Fire Department, there were 43 people on the bus.
São Paulo fans traveled to Taubaté (SP) after the team’s game against Cruzeiro and transported people who live in São José dos Campos, Pindamonhangaba, Caçapava, Taubaté and Jacareí. The vehicle was contracted by the sub-headquarters of Gaviões da Fiel do Vale do Paraíba.
Repercussion
The accident prompted notes of regret from several football clubs in the country and also from President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
“I hope for the recovery of the injured and for the determination of the causes of the bus accident. We need peace and transport vehicles in good condition on the roads, because there is no way to recover lost lives”, wrote Lula.

Corinthians showed solidarity with the families and made itself available to help. The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) and other teams also mourned the tragic accident.
