Latvian hockey player Rodrigo Abols, who plays for the Swedish Regle, said that he would not agree to play in the Continental Hockey League (KHL) for any money.
“If I were offered 10 million here and now for playing in the KHL, I wouldn’t go. It’s bloody money, and I’m not interested in making friends with people who are moving there now,” Hockeysverige quotes Abols with reference to an interview with Helsingborgs Dagblad.
In the 2022/23 season, two Latvians played in the KHL: goalkeeper Janis Kalnins (Amur) and forward Nikolai Eliseev (Admiral). Abols, 27, played in the KHL for Dynamo Riga in the 2014/15 season.
Earlier, Russian functionary and commentator Leonid Weisfeld spoke about the motivation of foreigners to obtain Russian citizenship to play in the KHL.
