Chief of the General Staff of the Aerospace Forces, General Viktor Afzalov, has been appointed interim commander-in-chief of the Russian aerospace forces, RIA Novosti reports citing an informed source.
It is noted that ex-Commander-in-Chief of the Aerospace Forces Sergei Surovikin is currently relieved of his post.
“The head of the General Staff of the Aerospace Forces, Colonel-General Viktor Afzalov, is temporarily acting as Commander-in-Chief of the Aerospace Forces,” the message says.
Previously, Afzalov was the acting commander-in-chief of the Aerospace Forces, during the time when Surovikin commanded the Joint Group of Troops and Forces in the NVO zone.
