European wrestling champion Khanum Veliyeva won the gold medal at the 2023 International University Sports Festival in Yekaterinburg.
The 24-year-old athlete from Krasnoyarsk won first place in the weight category up to 68 kg.
Also gold was won by Maria Tyumerekova (up to 50 kg), Leila Karymova (up to 55 kg), Yulia Artyshko (up to 62 kg), Zlatoslava Stepanova (up to 65 kg), Valeria Trifonova (up to 76 kg), Gyultakin Shirinova (up to 53 kg) , Marziya Sadigova (up to 72 kg), Bermet Nuridin Kyzy (up to 59 kg), Angela Alvarez Martinez (up to 57 kg).
Earlier it was reported that a judoka from Iran was not allowed on the mat in Yekaterinburg due to her refusal to take off her hijab.
