This Saturday and Sunday (26th and 27th) the Cultural Center of Diversity, in São Paulo, will host the Bee Multicultural Festival of Lesbian Visibility. Initially a film festival, the event has grown and will have several types of activities in its first in-person edition, all for free.
In addition to the film show, the meeting will feature an art and gastronomy fair, musical attractions, exhibitions, debates and many other activities. On both days, activities begin at 3 pm and go on until dusk (check out the full schedule at the end of this text).
Among those invited to the activities are women who work in corporate, artistic and political circles, in addition to popular movements. Historian Heliana Hemetério, an activist for the inclusion of gender and sexual orientation in the anti-racist agenda, will speak on the theme “lesbian aging”.
There will also be discussions on the theme “motherhood and possible families”, with the participation of writer Marcela Tiboni, who has written books in which she reports her experience with the lactation induction protocol, in an example of experiencing lesbian motherhood.
The cinema sessions, which gave rise to the festival’s history, will take place on the two nights of activities. On Saturday, a session with Brazilian short films is scheduled. On Sunday, international short films will be shown.
The event takes place between two important dates for the lesbian movement, both in August. The 19th is National Lesbian Pride Day, in honor of activist Rosely Roth. The second date, the 29th, is the National Lesbian Visibility Day, in reference to the day the 1st National Lesbian Seminar took place in the country.
