The Russian Defense Ministry claims a downed Ukrainian missile over the Kaluga region and 42 drones in the annexed Crimea. Moscow airports were closed again.
On the night of August 25, Russian telegram channels reported explosions in the sky over the Kaluga, Tula and Moscow regions – presumably, this was air defense firing at drones.
Later, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that a Ukrainian missile had been shot down in the Kaluga region. According to a statement from the agency, Russian air defense forces shot down a missile from a “modified” S-200 anti-aircraft missile system. The Ministry of Defense claims that the missile launch was an attempt to strike at civilian targets.
The Telegram channel Baza claims that the missile was shot down near the Shaykovka military airfield.
At the same time, Russian publics report the shooting down of some air targets in the area of Obninsk and Maloyaroslavets – this is part of the Kaluga region much closer to Moscow.
Moscow’s Vnukovo and Domodedovo airports have been temporarily closed, Russian TASS news agency reported. A few hours later, the air hubs resumed work.
Also, the Russian Ministry of Defense claims that on the night of August 25, the Ukrainian army tried to hit the annexed Crimea with 42 drones at once.
“Air defense systems detected 42 drones. As a result of the fire impact over the Crimea, 9 of them were destroyed, 33 were suppressed by electronic warfare and crashed without reaching the target,” the Defense Ministry said in a statement.
During the night, explosions and the destruction of drones were reported by residents of the annexed Sevastopol, explosions were also heard more than a hundred kilometers from the city, in the area of Cape Tarkhankut. This was also reported by the local occupation authorities.
“According to preliminary data, several UAVs were destroyed over the sea in the area of Cape Khersones. Now the city is quiet. But all the forces and services are on alert,” Mikhail Razvozhaev, the Russian-appointed governor of the annexed Sevastopol, wrote in a telegram channel.
According to him, there is no destruction.
