Latvian Andrei Rastorguev was disqualified following the results of the sprint race at the Summer Biathlon World Championships in Brezno-Osrblie (Slovakia).
The athlete was disqualified for a safety violation because he entered the track with an incorrectly fixed rifle, according to the website of the International Biathlon Union (IBU).
The silver medal went to Lithuanian Vytautas Strol, the bronze medalist was the Swede Jesper Nelin. The race was won by the Belgian Florent Claude.
In the spring of 2022, the IBU announced the decision to allow Belarusian and Russian biathletes to the World Cup only as neutral athletes. As a result, the Russians decided to skip these competitions.
Earlier, former Russian biathlete Daria Virolainen commented on the change of sports citizenship.
