In the Zhytomyr region during the performance of a combat mission, two combat training aircraft L-39 of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine collided. Three pilots were killed.
The Air Force reported that among the dead was the pilot of the 40th tactical aviation brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Andrey Pilshchikov with the call sign “Dzhus”. Fame Pilshchikov brought participation in the air defense of Kyiv in February-March 2022. He repeatedly gave interviews to Ukrainian and Western media, in which he called for modern fighter jets to be provided to Ukraine.
According to the correspondent of the Ukrainian service of Radio Liberty, two planes fell into the gardens of private houses, the approximate distance between them is 300 meters. There were no casualties among local residents.
The State Bureau of Investigation of Ukraine is investigating the circumstances of the plane crash. It is noted that special attention will be paid to the study of the technical condition of the aircraft and compliance with the rules of preparation for flights.
