The Serbian authorities have canceled the residence permit of the concert organizer Yevgeny Irzhansky. This was reported by the Serbian-based Russian Democratic Society.
Irzhansky, in the status of an individual entrepreneur (IP), since 2022 organized tours of Casta, Animal Jazz, Anacondaz, poetess Vera Polozkova, writer Dmitry Bykov and others in Serbia.
On the basis of an individual entrepreneur, according to Sota, he recently received a residence permit. However, on August 28, he received a call from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was invited for another interview. “This time the employee said that this is a standard check of persons with a residence permit by IP in order to find out about the activity of the company. The questions really related to the activities of the company – what does it do and is it possible to find information about it on the Internet. After asking a few questions, the employee left and returned with a message about the cancellation of the residence permit. He did not indicate the reasons, but gave Yevgeny a statement to sign, which indicated that he was a “threat to the national security of Serbia,” the Russian Democratic Society told the publication.
The residence permit was also deprived of his wife, who received him as a member of the family. They must leave Serbia within a week and have also been banned from entering the country for a year. Irzhansky intends to appeal the decision of the Serbian authorities.
Earlier, the Serbian authorities denied a residence permit to Vladimir Volokhonsky, one of the founders of the Russian Democratic Society. The document he was given stated that he was denied a residence permit because he allegedly posed a threat to the security of Serbia. “I knew that I would most likely be refused even before. Because there was such unofficial information. I had been waiting for some kind of decision for a very long time. And when the story with Peter happened, I just realized that it was most likely is not connected directly with Russia, is not connected with my activities there, but is connected precisely with our activity in Serbia,” he said.
The “Russian Democratic Society” holds rallies in Serbia against the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine, actions in support of political prisoners and organizes lectures for activists.
