The Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy of Kyrgyzstan has decided to terminate the operation of the TikTok short video service in the country. Kloop writes about this with reference to the message of the department.
This decision in the ministry is explained by the fact that the number of appeals with “concerns” from a number of non-governmental organizations “regarding the harmful effects” of the TikTok social network, which “negatively affects the mental development and health of children,” has increased.
“TikTok immerses the user in the virtual world of short clips; after watching them, teenagers try to repeat certain videos, some of which are life-threatening. In addition, the child’s psyche is still unstable, it is just being formed and such content, causing addiction, negatively affects the emotional the state of the younger generation,” the statement said.
Based on the results of content monitoring, the agency revealed that TikTok “has no restrictions on access to information that is harmful to the health and development of children, and there are no functions for controlling the age category.”
The decision was sent to the Ministry of Digital Development, which is engaged in blocking sites and services in the country.
In February of this year, a number of deputies of the Kyrgyz parliament spoke in favor of blocking TikTok. Shailobek Atazov said that “they show bad things on TikTok that will turn the ideology of the younger generation in a negative direction.” “Give instructions to the Ministry of Culture, let them work and eliminate negative consequences. It’s a shame to watch this with your family,” he said.
