Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili condemned the President of the Republic Salome Zurabishvili for an uncoordinated trip to Europe.
“You remember well how a few months ago the president spoke publicly and stated that the Georgian government does not implement 12 recommendations. She also said the most alarming thing – that Georgia did not deserve the status of a candidate last year,” the prime minister said, as quoted by Sputnik Georgia.
According to Garibashvili, it would be unjustified for him to delegate certain powers to Zurabishvili after such a statement.
“It’s sad that the President of Georgia is demonstratively violating the Constitution. At this time, we must be defenders of the law and set an example for others,” the politician added.
On September 1, the ruling Georgian Dream party initiated impeachment proceedings against the current president because of her visit to Europe, despite the refusal of the cabinet.
The party’s executive secretary, Mamuka Mdinaradze, said that Zurabishvili violates the country’s Constitution because he travels to Europe without the consent of the authorities.
