The age limit for deferment from conscription for military service in the Russian army for IT specialists has been increased from 27 to 30 years. This is stated in the decree signed by Vladimir Putin.
The new norm for conscripting IT specialists for military service in the Russian Army comes into force on January 1, 2024. It will be available to employees of IT companies accredited in Russia, who have worked for them for at least 11 months and have a higher technical education.
Thus, the same conditions will apply to IT specialists as to other Russians. At the same time, citizens who turn 27 years old before the end of 2023 become liable for military reserve and are not subject to conscription in 2024.
The initiative to raise the upper limit of conscription age for IT specialists was announced in August of this year by the head of the Ministry of Digital Development, Maksut Shadayev.
In 2022, Putin signed a decree on measures to support the IT industry amid a massive outflow of specialists after the start of full-scale Russian aggression in Ukraine. This document, among other things, established a deferment from the army from 18 to 27 years for employees of IT companies accredited in Russia.
