Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba claims that Ukraine has photographic evidence of Russian drones falling on Romanian territory during an attack on Ukrainian ports on the night of September 3-4. The Ukrinform agency reports this.
The Romanian Ministry of Defense previously rejected Kiev’s claims that Romanian territory also came under attack during the night attack, saying that at the moment, none of the Russian attacks on Ukraine had created a “direct military threat” to Romanian territory. According to Kuleba, Ukraine’s neighbors “have a tendency not to escalate the interpretation of certain events, so as not to be drawn into a direct conflict” with Russia. As the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry noted, Kyiv is ready to provide evidence in defense of its position.
“It makes no sense to deny that something fell there. And we authoritatively assert, with evidence, that it was Shahed drones that arrived,” Kuleba said, noting that, according to his information, Romania is studying the situation.
It was previously stated that the Shaheds, which Russia launched at the Izmail port in the Odessa region, located near the Romanian border, fell on Romanian territory. It is alleged that Ukrainian border guards saw two detonations of Russian kamikaze drones on the territory of the neighboring country.
Romania is a member of NATO, and a possible shelling of its territory could be grounds for appealing to the allies for help under Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty.
Last winter, during a Russian missile attack on western Ukraine, a missile struck Poland, killing two people. According to the Polish authorities, the talk, however, was not about a Russian, but about a Ukrainian anti-aircraft missile. Article 5 of the NATO treaty was not activated.
On the night of September 4, the Russian army once again attacked the south of the Odessa region with drones and Caliber missiles. Civil infrastructure facilities were subjected to a massive attack. Two people were injured. According to the authorities of the Odessa region, 17 Shahed kamikaze drones were shot down by air defense forces. However, there are also hits. Warehouse and industrial buildings, as well as equipment of agricultural and industrial enterprises, were damaged. The port of Izmail was hit. Russian troops began actively shelling the Odessa region, destroying port infrastructure, the day after Moscow pulled out of the so-called grain deal in mid-July. Russia stated that some of the agreements regarding the export of Russian fertilizers and food have not been implemented.
