Students from public schools in São Paulo protested this Monday (4) and called for the departure of the Secretary of State for Education of the São Paulo government, Renato Feder. Feder faces criticism over an attempt to replace textbooks with electronic material and gross errors found in the material delivered to public education students.
The protest, called by the Fogo no Pavio collective, took place next to the headquarters of the company Multi, responsible for the Multilaser brand, owned by Feder. The fact that the secretary is the owner of a company has already been the subject of a request for dismissal made by parliamentarians, alleging a conflict of interest.
The students carried posters and painted slogans calling for the secretary to leave. “Feder’s management has been marked by business closures with the company itself, with the policy of ending physical textbooks and the worsening quality of public education. We can no longer put up with this!”, said the collective in a note on social media. social media.
Feder was previously secretary of education for the state of Paraná, where his performance was also questioned. Appointed by Bolsonarista Tarcísio de Freitas for a similar position in São Paulo, he was responsible for the decision to refuse textbooks sent free of charge by the Ministry of Education with the intention of adopting 100% digital material. Under great pressure, he had to retreat.
Brasil de Fato contacted the press office of the São Paulo State Department of Education to ask for a position on the protest and the secretary’s requests for departure, but received no response. If you receive a response, the text will be updated.
