The US Department of Justice is seeking permission to use Russian assets worth more than $1 billion, subject to international sanctions, for the needs of Ukraine.
RIA Novosti reports this with reference to Deputy American Prosecutor General Lisa Monaco.
“We are seeking permission from Congress to use the funds received for the benefit of the Ukrainian people,” she said.
Previously, the UN proposed unfreezing the assets of Russian companies for the grain deal.
In August, the White House said that Russian assets would be frozen until damages were compensated to Ukraine.
