The Scream of the Excluded will take to the streets in 25 Brazilian states this September 7th holiday. There are dozens of events planned, with the theme “What are you hungry and thirsty for?”, which proposes reflections and actions in search of alternatives to the difficulty in accessing food and water. Check the list of locations and times at the end of this text.
The first edition of Grito took to the streets in 1995. The proposal arose from activities of the National Conference of Brazilian Bishops (CNBB), inspired by the theme of that year’s Fraternity Campaign: “Fraternity and Excluded”, and the motto ” Was it you, Lord?”
The demonstrations take place annually, always on September 7th, as a counterpoint to the Cry of Independence, which was proclaimed by a representative of the Portuguese royal family. The idea is to take to the streets and squares the silenced screams that come from the fields, basements and outskirts of society.
In addition to the activities on the 7th, several locations will have other mobilizations in the previous days (such as in the capital of Maranhão, São Luís) and, eventually, on later dates.
