In Moscow, Krasnoyarsk and Nizhny Novgorod, security forces came with searches to local residents who were accused of financing Alexei Navalny’s Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK), recognized in Russia as “extremist” (Part 1 of Article 282.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). This was reported by OVD-Info.
The first to learn about the visit of security forces to Gleb and Dmitry Kalinichev from Nizhny Novgorod. Gleb Kalinichev’s lawyer Kristina Tyurina said that six masked security officials came to him, broke down the door and seized all the equipment. After the search, he was to be taken for questioning to the FSB, and on Thursday, September 7, a preventive measure was to be chosen in the criminal case. The man faces from three to eight years in prison.
Later, the pro-Kremlin publication RT reported searches in Moscow and Krasnoyarsk – at Ilya Startsev and Andrei Novokreshchenykh. Startsev was allegedly found with an American driver’s license and a certificate from the Golos observer movement. In the published video, the newly baptized people are seen by the security forces wringing their hands and leading them into the apartment for a search.
Whether these investigative actions are taking place in the same criminal case or different ones is currently unknown.
The Kalinichev brothers have been subjected to searches and arrests more than once, OVD-Info notes. So, in October 2022, they were detained and possibly searched in connection with a criminal case against local teacher Ilya Myaskovsky, suspected of “discrediting” the Russian army. During November-December, Gleb and Dmitry Kalinichev were searched and detained twice more in connection with the same case.
FBK was recognized as an extremist organization in 2021. Transferring money to them, as well as participating in activities after receiving such status, is considered a criminal offense by the Russian authorities.
