Vice-President of the Russian Tennis Federation (RFF) Alexey Selivanenko believes that Daniil Medvedev was able to better adapt to difficult conditions during the US Open quarter-final match with Andrey Rublev.
“Today there were very difficult conditions. The heat is over 35 degrees, very stuffy and humid. It’s very difficult to play in this weather. The match was not easy for both. However, Daniil was able to withstand it better and adapt,” Sport-Express quotes Selivanenko.
According to the sports official, Medvedev “played, in principle, his own game.”
“And for Andrey, this is a match of a lot of missed opportunities. The guys have been playing against each other since childhood. Now Daniil turned out to be stronger,” added Selivanenko.
The game ended in three sets with a score of 6:4, 6:3, 6:4 in favor of the winner of the US Open 2021. The meeting lasted 2 hours 48 minutes.
Medvedev’s next opponent will be the winner of the match between Carlos Alcaraz (Spain) and Andrey Zverev (Germany).
The prize pool for the 2023 US Open is $65 million.
Earlier, Medvedev said that the organizers were poorly prepared for the 2023 US Open.
