The European Union plans to update budget rules, which will allow the union to increase military spending.
This was reported by Reuters, citing sources.
According to the agency, after the start of the special military operation, a number of European countries called on the EU to exclude military spending from budget deficit calculations.
It is noted that in Brussels such a proposal was not supported.
“But there is an agreement that the EC will classify such expenses as “significant factors”, which will allow it not to take any disciplinary action even if the 3% limit is exceeded,” the publication says.
Earlier, EU Foreign Service Representative Peter Stano said that since February 2022, total assistance to Ukraine from the European Union has reached €20 billion.
