Specialist Maxim Sokolov told RT in a conversation how to save on seasonal car maintenance. According to him, it will not be possible to carry it out completely on your own, however, the motorist can do some work himself – replace oils and filters, spark plugs, brake pads and other consumables.
“You can also pour antifreeze liquid into the washer reservoir yourself, charge the battery, lubricate the locks and hinges, and drain the sediment from the fuel filter,” explained an expert from the online hypermarket VseInstruments.ru.
According to him, to save on seasonal maintenance, you can use your own consumables, such as oil and filters.
“This allows you to save up to 10% of the cost of work. But you need to be attentive to the quality of materials, since cheap analogues can lead to new breakdowns. The exact amount of savings depends on the make and age of the car, region and market prices. According to rough estimates, using your own consumables and searching for inexpensive services allows you to save up to 5 thousand rubles on each maintenance. But this figure may change depending on the situation,” added the RT interlocutor.
In addition, the specialist advised checking the oil and technical fluid levels.
“Pay attention to the acceptable range. A fluid level above the max mark may be more harmful than if the level falls below the min. Check the condition of the paintwork, remove chips and scratches, if any. After summer trips to the countryside and nature, it is necessary to check the entire chassis, including the steering, brake system, as well as boots and various components,” he said.
Sokolov also recommended inspecting the underbody of the car.
“In winter, hinge joints, seals and rubber boots will be especially susceptible to damage. Replace your wipers. Winter brushes have an additional protective plastic or rubber frame-cover that protects them from snow and ice. Turn on the heater: if the temperature in the cabin does not change significantly, you should service the thermostat, heater radiator or other systems,” concluded RT’s interlocutor.
Earlier, the press service of the Russian Automobile Dealers Association (ROAD) told RT in a conversation with which problems car owners most often turn to car dealers and whether this rating has changed over the past year.
