The President of the Russian Wrestling Federation, Mikhail Mamiashvili, made it clear that the United World of Wrestling (UWW) did not give Russian athletes recommendations on handshakes at the World Championships.
“No one approached the guys with such a question, they simply warned them to react adequately,” TASS quotes Mamiashvili.
Let us remind you that Abasgadzhi Magomedov defeated Valentin Blesetsky ahead of schedule in the quarterfinal bout in the weight category up to 61 kg. After the end of the fight, they did not shake hands, as is customary in wrestling as a sign of respect for the opponent. Both wrestlers did not approach each other after the winner was announced.
The World Championships take place in Belgrade from September 16 to 24.
It was previously reported that the United World of Wrestling recommended that Russians and Ukrainians not shake hands at the World Cup.
