On October 1st, unified elections will take place across the country to choose new guardianship counselors. The role of Guardianship Councils is essential for guaranteeing the rights of children and adolescents, taking care of complaints, claims and requests made by children, adolescents, families, communities and citizens.
Counselors also act preventively, they work attentively to any sign of violence (physical, psychological or sexual), abandonment, negligence or risk situations. Despite this, the choice of those responsible for this work is still little known by the population.

To talk about the topic, this Monday’s Central do Brasil (18) spoke with Camila Bahia Braga, mobilizer of the “Election of the Year” campaign, which aims to ensure that Guardianship Councils are occupied by people who are truly committed to the Child and Adolescent Statute (ECA). The action provides a platform to connect voters and candidates.
“This platform we created is also to provoke the progressive camp, for people not only to attend but also to vote on the first of October, because turnout is very low, but also to find out which candidacies are committed to the ECA, with human rights, with the secular State, so that we don’t leave our childhood and youth unprotected”, explained Camila.
