President of the Russian Hockey Federation (RHF) Vladislav Tretyak does not believe that CSKA Moscow lost many points at the start of the regular championship of the Continental Hockey League (KHL) season 2023/24 due to disciplinary sanctions against goalkeeper Ivan Fedotov.
“If CSKA scores one goal, then what does the goalkeeper have to do with it? A goalkeeper has the right to make a mistake, at one time I even had the right to make two mistakes, because I knew that Valery Kharlamov and Boris Mikhailov would definitely score three goals,” TASS quotes Tretyak.
The three-time Olympic champion emphasized that the army team must try to improve its performance.
“We need to score, then it will be easier to play,” TASS quotes Tretyak.
The reigning KHL champions scored seven points in eight matches. The Army team is in eighth place in the Western Conference standings. Fedotov has already played eight games in the 2023/24 KHL season.
The FHR in August banned Fedotov from playing for CSKA in the KHL until January 1, 2024, supporting the IIHF decision to disqualify the goalkeeper, who did not return to the NHL club Philadelphia Flyers. The International Federation also imposed a one-year ban on international transfers on CSKA.
Earlier, Luc Tardif said that FHR, CSKA and Fedotov violated the IIHF transfer rules.
