Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, former world boxing champion Nikolai Valuev commented on the appeal of the executive committee of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) with a proposal to admit the Russian junior team to international tournaments.
“This decision says nothing. A performance without a flag and anthem cannot be fair under any circumstances, and is not even discussed. This is not an encouraging factor on the path to full recovery,” Match TV quotes Valuev.
On September 26, it became known that UEFA made a proposal to admit the Russian junior team to international tournaments. Women’s and men’s teams will play matches without the flag, anthem and not on Russian territory.
The UEFA Executive Committee also suggested that the organization’s administration find a technical solution for including Russian teams of the appropriate ages in tournaments, even if their draw has already taken place.
In February 2022, the International Football Federation (FIFA) and UEFA suspended Russian teams from participating in tournaments due to the situation in Ukraine.
Earlier, former Dynamo Moscow and Russian national team striker Dmitry Bulykin reacted positively to the decision to admit the Russian U17 national team to tournaments.
