State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova expressed hope that Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva will not be disqualified for a long time.
“In such cases, the athlete is either forgiven or given a minimum sentence – which has already passed. She continues to train and, by and large, has nothing to lose, nothing changes for her – she will train and perform,” Gazeta.Ru quotes Zhurova.
She also noted that four years are given to real repeat doping offenders who “ate anabolic steroids by the handful.”
The awards ceremony for the figure skating competition at the Beijing Olympics was canceled due to the publication of the results of Valieva’s doping test. The figure skater passed a positive doping test on December 25, 2021, the day of the free program at the Russian Championships.
Hearings regarding the positive drug test will be held on September 26, 27 and 28, with September 29 as a reserve day.
Earlier, sports commentator Dmitry Guberniev said that American figure skater Vincent Zhou made a complete fool of himself by announcing the widespread use of doping among Russian athletes.
