The city of Porto Alegre (RS) undergoes several urban transformations recurrently, through urbanization plans. The projects are usually part of the election plans in the administration of elected mayors. In order to debate the future of the city and the relentless advancement of mega real estate projects, the series of discussions “Porto Alegre Metrópole” will take place between the 3rd and 5th of October, at Livraria Cirkula.
:: Internationalization of Porto Alegre: debate on the future of the city ::
Currently, the Urban Development Master Plan (PDDU) and the Environmental Urban Development Master Plan (PDDUA) are those under analysis and construction. Furthermore, there are constructions that have been made possible by the city of Porto Alegre through special projects, which are projects that have licensing as a priority.
The series of events aims to analyze policies that lower the city’s prestige and good living. Also, it intends to discuss the possibilities of new practices worthy of a cosmopolitan city, connected with the world, with quality of life for all, a city respectful in its relationship with nature.
:: We are not learning the signs given by nature, warns Leonardo Boff in Porto Alegre ::
Organizer of the event, writer Antonio David Cattani recalls that the capital of Rio Grande do Sul was once known internationally for its cultural dynamism, its public policies and the organization of extraordinary events, such as the World Social Forum. At present, it is undergoing a rapid process of environmental, urban and social regression.
“The deterioration in the quality of life, pollution, mega real estate speculation projects are the results of actions promoted by economic groups with unlimited greed, linked to the municipal public authorities and supported by the elitist and retrograde media”, says Cattani.
