19 children from territories occupied by Russia were returned to Ukraine, the Save Ukraine charitable foundation reported.
The organization clarified that this was the foundation’s 12th rescue mission. In total, the Save Ukraine team has already returned 196 children to Ukraine.
“Thank you to everyone who was with us and helped us carry out this difficult but important work. Let’s move on,” wrote the head of the fund, Nikolai Kuleba, in his Telegram channel.
According to the Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmitry Lubinets, in total more than 16 thousand children were deported from Ukraine to Russia during the war. For the illegal deportation of children from the occupied territories of Ukraine to Russia, the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague issued an arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin and children’s ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova.
As the ICC explained, there are “reasonable grounds” to believe that the President of the Russian Federation bears personal responsibility for what happened. Russian authorities claim that by removing children they are saving them from shelling. At the same time, cases of adoption of such children in Russia were reported, which contradicts international conventions.
Belarus is helping Russia in the deportation of Ukrainian children. On the instructions of Alexander Lukashenko, children are taken through the Russian Federation to Belarus, supposedly for “health improvement.” The organization of their placement in Belarusian camps is being carried out by the foundation of pro-government activist Alexei Talay with the support of OJSC Belaruskali and the Union State. In addition, the Belarusian Red Cross Society helps the Lukashenko regime export Ukrainian children to Belarus.
