Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte said that he does not agree with the accelerated expansion of the European Union at the expense of Ukraine and other candidate countries.
He made a corresponding statement at the summit of the European Political Community (EPC) in Granada, Spain; his words were published by the Netherlands Broadcasting Corporation (NOS).
According to him, in order to join the EU, candidate countries will need to fulfill “a thousand conditions” on which concessions cannot be made.
“The question is not when countries will be ready, but whether they are ready,” Rutte added.
Earlier, the American newspaper Politico, citing sources, reported that EU officials are preparing to begin negotiations with Ukraine about its future entry into the union.
